How do I know the weight of my asphalt shingles?

Asphalt shingles are extremely heavy. As a result we have put the following charts together to assist you in figuring out the weight of your asphalt shingle load. Please note that these numbers are estimated only and the actually weight may vary depending on the grade of shingle used.

When loading a bin please keep in mind the weight of the load and put heavy items or the bulk of the load towards the rear door of the bin. This helps us in getting the bin off the ground if it is lighter at the front of the bin.

These charts use the following assumptions:

One bundle of shingles weighs approximately 90 lbs.
There are three bundles in a square.
One square is a 10 feet x 10 feet area or 100 square feet.
This is for one layer of shingles only – if there are two layers then the weight is doubled.
