Restricted Items

We need to be informed prior to you placing restricted items in our garbage bins. Items are generally restricted because they are either very heavy in a small volume (e.g. concrete), or they require special handling at the dump. Extra fees will apply for all restricted items. 

Restricted items include:

1. City of Calgary Designated Materials, such as concrete, brick, masonry block, asphalt, asphalt shingles, and metal.   Read more on Designated Materials below.
2. Appliance like washers, dryers, stoves, freezers, fridges, and other Freon containing appliances require special handling. These items MUST be placed on top of all other garbage towards the rear door of the bin, as we are required to separate them at the dump.
3. Tires - we will accept a maximum of 4 tires per load NOT on rims, and they must be placed on the top of load.

Prohibited Items

The following items are NOT ACCEPTED in our garbage bins:

1. Petrolium products such as motor oil, gas, diesel, etc
2. Asbestos
3. Animal products
4. Propane tanks
5. Paint - empty cans are acceptable
6. Batteries
7. Ballasts
   
8. Medical Waste
9. Pesticides

Designated Materials

The City of Calgary is encouraging the recycling of certain designated materials and as such has introduced a MUCH HIGHER rate of charge to encourage the diversion of these materials to recyclers rather than the landfill. If there are designated materials present in your load you will be charged the Allcity's designated materials rate rather than our normal rate.  Click here for the City of Calgary website link for designated materials.

Designated materials are:

• Concrete: whole or crushed

• Brick and masonry block: structural or decorative, with or without mortar, crushed or whole

• Asphalt: road asphalt or asphalt shingles

• Metals: all scrap metals longer than 1.2 m (4 ft)
